The Lake Biwa Ride Companion is a private planning aid for a small group of friends. By using it you accept these terms.
The map and route shown in the app are a road preview, not cycling guidance. Routes are computed for cars with avoidance preferences and may still include motorways, tolls, tunnels or roads where cycling is prohibited. You are responsible for checking that every section is legal and safe to ride, and for following local traffic law and the official programmes' rules.
Checklist ticks are the group's own record. The app does not submit official checkpoint visits, does not verify GPS stamps and cannot award certificates.
After a first online visit the app keeps a copy of its own files so your itinerary, check-ins and notes reopen without a connection. Map previews, routes and place photos are online-only and simply unavailable offline. The saved copy is a convenience, not a backup — do not rely on it as the only record of your plan.
Maps, routes and terrain data are provided by Google and shown under the Google Maps/Google Earth Terms of Service. Map content must not be scraped or stored outside the session in which it is displayed, apart from the narrow exceptions Google's caching rules allow. The app honours the same rule: Google data kept server-side is a resolved Google place ID (kept indefinitely) and place coordinates, place details, photo references and photo image bytes (each kept at most 30 days). Canonical-place photo responses may be held by your browser for a day; custom-place photos are marked not to be stored. Route geometry and terrain elevation are shown transiently and never persisted.
Distances and ascent figures are approximate. Opening hours, road closures and checkpoint availability may differ from what any map shows. The tool is provided as-is, without warranty of any kind.
The completion celebration uses a lineless, palette-recoloured adaptation of the OpenMoji maple leaf — same silhouette, outlines removed — under CC BY-SA 4.0 (the license also covers the modified SVG). The unmodified original ships alongside for provenance.
The mini-bar navigate and check-in glyphs are Tabler Icons ("route" and "check", used verbatim) by Paweł Kuna, under the MIT License (a copy ships with the app).
